Lunch Menu

Menus

Meals, foods and beverages sold or served at schools meet state and federal requirements based on the USDA Dietary Guidelines. All meals, foods and beverages are prepared and served by qualified child nutrition professionals. We provide students with access to a variety of affordable and appealing foods that meet the health and nutrition needs of students.

  • South Kitsap School District Food & Nutrition Services works with families and school health staff to provide appropriate meal modifications for students with disabilities, food allergies, and other dietary needs.

How to request a special meal

    1. Tell us about the need: Contact your school nurse or the Food & Nutrition Services office at any time during the school year. Dietary needs may also be identified during enrollment.

    2. Share the information: Complete the Request for Special Dietary Accommodations form or provide an equivalent medical statement when required. A separate Fluid Milk Substitution form is available for milk requests.

    3. We make a plan: Food & Nutrition Services works with the school nurse and your family. For complex needs, the team may also include a 504 or IEP representative.

    4. We prepare and serve the meal: Approved meal modifications are communicated to trained kitchen staff. Individualized meals may be prepared by our Special Diets Coordinator and delivered to your students school.

Will my student have to wait for paperwork?

No unnecessary delay. Once we learn of a dietary need, we will work with you and school health staff to identify a safe interim meal while required documentation is collected. An existing Individual Health Plan may help guide that interim plan.

    What documentation is needed?

For disability-related meal modifications, a medical statement is generally required from an authorized healthcare professional. Under current school meal rules, a Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN) may also sign. The statement should explain which foods must be avoided and what changes are needed. We accept equivalent statements that contain the necessary information; the district form is not mandatory if another statement is sufficient.

    What about milk substitutions?

Milk substitutions are reviewed individually. Disability-related needs receive reasonable modifications. For requests unrelated to a disability, available substitutions must follow federal nutrition and school meal requirements. Please use the district Fluid Milk Substitution form to start the conversation.

    Privacy, updates, and questions

We keep dietary information confidential and share it only with staff who need it to safely provide meals. Please tell your school nurse or Food & Nutrition Services if your student’s needs change. If you disagree with an accommodation decision, contact the FNS Director; the district can also provide its Section 504 grievance and impartial hearing information when applicable.
